The ruling JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) in Jharkhand has expressed its willingness to become a party in proceedings against Chief Minister Hemant Soren before the Election Commission. News agency PTI gave this information on Friday quoting party sources. Soren’s ownership of a mining lease has been asked by the Election Commission to appear before him on May 31.

Party general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey said that JMM has written a letter to the state governor Ramesh Bais on Friday. It has also been requested to forward the party’s application to the Election Commission so that the positively changing political and administrative situation in the state under Soren’s leadership can also be placed before the Commission.

Allegation: BJP’s petition is to harass the Soren government
In this letter, JMM has alleged that this petition filed by the BJP with the Election Commission is politically motivated. The party claimed that this petition has been filed to harass the smoothly running Soren government. The petitioner party (BJP) has leveled completely baseless allegations against Chief Minister Soren.

The JMM said in the letter that the BJP in its petition has sought termination of Soren’s state assembly membership which is malicious, false and troubling. On the complaint of the BJP, the Election Commission has initiated proceedings against Soren. Hemant Soren is alleged to have issued a mining lease to himself while keeping the portfolio of mines with him.
