Eight people, including seven children of two families, went missing after a boat capsized at Panchkhero dam in Giridih district of Jharkhand. An official gave this information. The incident took place around 11.30 am, the official said. Two families from Giridih district had hired a country boat for a water ride. There were a total of eight people in the boat. The sailor succeeded in swimming. Rajdhanwar SDM Dhirendra Kumar said that seven members of two families are still missing and surge operation is going on. This dam is situated on the border of Giridih and Koderma districts.
He said a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed for the rescue operation. A motorboat of the fisheries department has also been deployed, but we are yet to find any missing people. The missing have been identified as Palak Kumari (14), Shivam Kumar (12), Sejal Kumari (12), Harshal Kumar (14), Chhoti Kumari (6), Rahul Kumar (16), Amit Kumar Singh (14), and Sitaram Yadav. (40) as has been done.
Several senior officers including Koderma DC and Superintendent of Police are camping at the spot and supervising the rescue operation. Pradeep Singh, who survived by swimming on the shore, told reporters that he had come along with the children for a boat ride to the Panchkhero dam.
