The color of the school uniform has been changed to green for students from middle school to higher secondary. Primary school students will be wearing dark blue and pink uniforms.

While Mahto has said that green is soothing to the eyes and represents the environment, the opposition BJP claims that the move is politically motivated. Earlier, over 35,000 government school buildings were given a fresh coat of green and white colours. While it said that the color was decided after the recommendations of experts, the BJP claimed that it was associated with the JMM party flag and was chosen to send a political message.

“The color coding of the government is nothing but an act of sending a political message. Many schools are running without a headmaster and there is a shortage of teachers. The government should first focus on improving the quality of education and developing the infrastructure of schools,” BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdev told PTI.
