Multilateral funding agency Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of Rs 831 crore for a water supply project in Jharkhand. In a release issued on Tuesday in this regard, ADB said that four cities of the state will come under the ambit of this project.

Sanjay Joshi, ADB’s Chief Urban Development Specialist for South Asia, said the project supports Jharkhand’s vision and action plan 2021 to improve the quality of life of its urban citizens through improved infrastructure.

He said that the water supply here is insufficient at present. On an average, water supply is available only for three to four hours a day. The project will ensure continuous and quality water supply, which will also improve health and sanitation conditions, especially in the post-pandemic scenario.

Hussainabad, Jhumri Talaiya, Medininagar and Ranchi will come under Jharkhand Urban Water Supply Improvement Project. Under this scheme, four public purification plants (water treatment plants) will be constructed. The total capacity of these four plants will be 275 million liters of water per day.
