Jharkhand: 11-year-old girl gang-raped by six minors, girl was returning home from marriage ceremony

Shocking news came out from Khunti district of Jharkhand on Saturday. Six minors have been arrested here in connection with the gang rape of an 11-year-old girl. The police have caught everyone and sent them to the Children’s Correctional Home. All the minor accused are in the age group of 10 to 16 years.

Khunti Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar said that action was taken on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim on Wednesday. It was further told that the incident took place on April 19 in a village under the Tapkra police station area, but all the accused were caught on Saturday.

In her complaint, the girl told the police that when she was returning home after a wedding ceremony in the village, the accused stopped her and raped her. Police said that four of the six accused were known to the victim.

SP Aman said that immediately after the complaint of the victim was registered, we started investigation. We have arrested all the six accused, who are between 10 and 16 years of age. We then produced him before the magistrate, who sent him to a juvenile home.

He said that the police have recorded the statements of five persons, including the girl, her parents and two friends, before the magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure).

Parents worried about social stigma
Police said that earlier they had tried to take up the matter at the panchayat level, due to which there was a delay in reporting the crime. However, the SP said that nothing of the sort has been mentioned in the complaint. Further informed that the girl’s parents were concerned about the social stigma but later decided to file a complaint.
