A man-eating leopard is creating terror in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district. He is constantly targeting people. Now he has now killed a young man of 20 years. This is the fourth death in three weeks.
Officials said on Thursday that all the four deaths were believed to be the result of a single leopard attack. Leopard is continuously killing people, but the proceedings to declare it a man-eater are missing in the files of the Forest Department. The Forest Division of Garhwa has said that the draft of the proposal to declare this leopard as a cannibal or man-eater has been prepared.
The latest incident of death in leopard attack took place in Kushwaha village of Ramkanda in Garhwa district. Harendra Nayak, who was returning home from his uncle’s place in the village, was attacked by a leopard at 6.30 pm on Wednesday. According to Garhwa Divisional Forest Officer (South) Shashi Kumar, the leopard attacked the youth on his neck. Due to this he died on the spot.
4th event in the region
This is the fourth such incident in the area in the last 20 days. Earlier on December 19, a six-year-old girl was killed by a leopard in Sevdih village of Ranka block. Earlier on December 14, another six-year-old girl was killed by a leopard in Rodo village of Bhandariya block. Similarly, on December 10, a 12-year-old girl died in a leopard attack in Chipdohar area of Barwadih block of Latehar district.
Keep an eye on the drone, but the leopard could not be seen
Shashi Kumar said that after the December 19 incident, we kept monitoring the area through drone cameras, but, we could not find any sign of the leopard. We thought he had left the area. He said that after the latest incident, we have started finalizing our draft proposal to declare leopard as a man-eater. It will be sent to the Chief Wildlife Warden for approval.
Forest department ordered three cages
The Forest Department has also ordered three cages to catch the leopard. Villagers were advised not to step out of their homes after sunset, but no one is paying heed to it. Especially women and children have been warned not to venture out of their houses after sunset, as leopards have been attacking during this time. If they need to go out, they should be accompanied by a group of men.
