The approval of the Union Home Ministry is necessary for the process of changing the name. The development comes after the Union Home Ministry gave its consent to change the name of any place or station after taking no objections from the Ministry of Railways, Department of Posts and Survey of India.

Changing the name of any village, town, city or station requires an executive order, whereas renaming a state with a majority in Parliament requires an amendment to the Constitution.
