JEE Main 2023: Tips and Tricks to Crack Session 2, Subject-wise Preparation Strategy

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main consists of 75 questions – 25 each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Know this before you enter the exam hall – you will not be able to solve all the questions, and neither will anyone else. And that’s perfectly fine. You have 180 minutes to complete the paper with 25 questions in each subject. But don’t make the mistake of assuming that you have one hour for each subject. Chemistry is expected to be completed in 35-40 minutes. You will need the remaining time in the difficult sections i.e. Physics and Mathematics. A total of 80 minutes are sufficient to solve the Mathematics section, leaving you one hour for Physics.

While solving the questions first choose those questions which are easy. Since each question carries equal marks, do not miss any question which you can attempt. After that go through the entire paper to find moderate questions. Deal with them and move on to the tougher ones at the end.

It is important to practice JEE Main previous papers. The self-assessment approach enables candidates to be aware of their JEE Main 2023 preparation level. By doing this one can check their solving speed and accuracy. Solving papers determines your strengths and weaknesses. Make a list of those focus areas and spend time working on them. This process will help you to prepare better. Mock tests are like real, the candidate has to follow the timing. This will help the candidate to face JEE Main with more confidence without any kind of exam fear or pressure.

Topic wise preparation strategy

Physics

JEE Physics is tougher than Chemistry. However, physics will give you an edge over others if you prepare it well.

• Start with NCERT and work on understanding the basics.

• From class 11th syllabus, the most important topics are mechanics, heat, thermodynamics and gravitation.

• Get your free body diagrams right and you’ll be able to solve every problem in mechanics with ease.

• From class 12th syllabus, the most important topics are electromagnetism, optics, current electricity, modern physics and electronics.

• Current power is the easiest of them and scoring too. Prepare it well.

• NCERT is sufficient for chapters like EM waves, semiconductors etc.

• For Thermo Physics, it is important to have a grasp on formulas. Memorize them as they will be useful in calculations.

• Be very careful with the sign convention, lens and mirror formulas in optics. The questions require a strong foundation and clarity in concepts. Draw the ray diagram. that will help.

chemistry

Often considered to be the easiest of the three subjects, JEE Main Chemistry can be easily tackled with an in-depth study of NCERT Chemistry (Part 1 & 2).

• Chemistry syllabus can be divided into physical, organic and inorganic chemistry.

• Physical Chemistry is the easiest section. Know its formulas well and learn to apply them.

• Learn to do multiplication and division quickly, when practicing problems in physical chemistry. This will save your time during the exam.

• You will get application-based questions, which will be easy to solve if you have the formulas at your fingertips.

• For Organic Chemistry, you must memorize important equations to score well.

• Focus on understanding the mechanisms of reactions.

• Inorganic is completely theory based and is all about rote learning (after understanding).

• Understand the nature of elements and their compounds.

• Practice the responses. Write them over and over again so that they become imprinted in your mind.

• Read NCERT inside and out. Don’t leave a single line out of it – that’s the trick to preparing for Chemistry.

• If you put in a little effort, you can easily score more than 75 out of 100 in Chemistry

Mathematics

JEE Mathematics is considered to be the toughest of the three sections and requires a lot of problem-solving from you to excel in it.

• Mathematics, undoubtedly, has maximum weightage in JEE Main question paper. You need to memorize a lot of formulas and tricks while practicing. Even an average student can score well in these questions.

• Coordinate and circle are also very important. For these chapters also, you need to memorize a lot of formulas and know when to apply which.

• 3D Geometry, Vectors and Integrals are high scoring and mainly calculation-based. Practice these chapters diligently to score full marks.

• Statistics, Probability and PnC get the least weightage and are arguably the toughest sections. You need a good understanding of concepts and ample amount of practice to solve questions from these chapters.

There is negative marking for wrong answers in JEE Main. So avoid guessing. Some calculated guesses are correct. But don’t overdo it as even a single mark can deprive you of hundreds of ranks in the exam. Do not panic if you are unable to solve some questions. Also, do not spend too much time on one question. go ahead. You can come back to it later. Once you read a question, go through its options before attempting it. You may often be able to find the answer by eliminating the wrong options. This will save you the time and effort of solving it.
