JEE Main 2023: Bombay HC to Hear Plea On 75% Eligibility Criteria in Engineering Entrance Today

The Bombay High Court will hear today a petition related to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023 eligibility criteria. According to Advocate Anubha Sahai, the petition related to 75 per cent marks in class 12th eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2023 has been listed as Item No. 52 in the Bombay High Court.

The petitioner has urged the National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam conducting body, to waive the 75 per cent eligibility criteria for this year’s entrance exam. The petitioner claims that the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2023 is unfair to the candidates and ‘is not a true reflection of their true capabilities’.

“The marks scored by them are not a true reflection of their actual potential, therefore students with marks below the eligibility criteria (75 percentile) for this year’s examinations may score very high in the upcoming JEE Main 2023, and if an unbiased The PIL states that they have not been given a chance, which will affect the future of lakhs of bright (candidates).

As per NTA rules – To appear in the JEE Main 2023 exam, candidates must have scored 75 percentile in aggregate in class 12th or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board.

Matter Regarding JEE Main 2023 Eligibility Criteria The Bombay High Court first heard on 6 April. While hearing the matter, the HC bench questioned the motive behind setting 75 per cent as the eligibility criteria for JEE Main – which itself is another qualifying exam.

Meanwhile, the advocates appearing for the petitioner submitted that the report relating to the top 20 per cent candidates has not been issued by the Board since 2019.

Apart from relaxing the 75 percentile norm for JEE Main 2023, a petition requesting a third session in the exam has also been filed recently by a candidate. The students have been requesting the exam conducting body to conduct the third session for JEE Mains exam in May 2023.

This year, NTA conducted JEE Main exam for two sessions – Session 1 and 2. The first session was held from 24 January to 1 February while the second session took place from 6 April to 15 April. JEE Main cut-off list is based on On some factors like- how many students appeared in the exam, difficulty level of JEE Main question paper, average performance of students in Joint Entrance Examination and seats available in colleges. Based on these factors, NTA decides the minimum marks for all engineering colleges. Candidates aspiring to appear in JEE Advanced need to obtain this minimum score as decided by NTA.
