The Janata Dal (United) has named its Jharkhand unit chief and former MLA Khiru Mahto as the party’s candidate from Bihar for the Rajya Sabha elections, JD(U) national Rajiv Ranjan Singh said on Sunday.

The party did not re-nominate its former chief and current Union Steel Minister and Rajya Sabha member Ramchandra Prasad Singh.

Ramchandra Prasad Singh had earlier also been the Principal Secretary to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Relations between RCP Singh and Nitish Kumar, once considered Bihar CM’s number 2, turned cold after the former nominated himself for a cabinet berth.

Till now, there were speculations that JD(U) might not re-nominate RCP Singh as its Rajya Sabha candidate.
