JDS Family That Stays Together…: No Hassan for Bahu Bhavani, She Says Work for ‘Party Win’ | 2nd List Here

karnataka election 2023

HD Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and key decision maker on selection of Janata Dal (S) (JDS) candidate, seems to have been able to convince his family that “the time is not right” for his sister-in-law Bhavani Will contest from the party’s bastion Hassan.

The JDS on Friday released its second list of 49 candidates, including the contentious Hassan seat. The Hassan seat has been given to Swaroop Prakash, son of senior JDS leader HP Swaroop.

Interestingly, Kumaraswamy’s wife Anitha had announced before the list was announced that Swaroop would be the JDS candidate from Hassan.

Bhavani had declared himself the JDS candidate from Hassan in January. This demand not only led to family discord, but also delayed the second list of candidates.

Bhavani, who had set her sights on the seat for the May 10 polls, stepped in to resolve a three-month cold war in the Gowda family, despite the ill health of her mentor and father-in-law Deve Gowda.

family drama

Deve Gowda’s elder daughter-in-law Bhavani had been waiting in the trenches for several decades to make her full debut in state politics as an MLA. She has been a former member of the Hassan District Panchayat, and is considered one of the most powerful women in Hassan.

However, Deve Gowda intervened at least thrice to resolve the impasse. The issue reached its climax when Bhavani’s sons – Prajwal Revanna (Hassan MP) and Suraj Revanna (Hassan MLC) – along with HD Revanna supported her decision.

Family sources tell News18 that even Gowda suggested that Bhavani consider the Chamaraja seat in Mysuru or Kadur as an option. Kadoor has now been given to YSV Dutta.

After about three months, the family discord started to calm down. On Thursday, Revanna and Bhavani were heard urging JDS workers to work for the victory of the party.

A day later, JDS released its second list of candidates.

family consent

There are 49 candidates in the second list. The first list of 93 candidates was released on 19 December, making it the first party to come out with a list.

The announcement of JDS candidates like A Manju from Arkalgud, Swaroop Prakash from Hassan, KS Lingesh from Belur and HD Revanna from Holenarasipura shows that HD Kumaraswamy had his way through the Deve Gowda family feud.

“It was done with the consent of the family. It also has Revanna’s blessings,” Kumaraswamy said about the list.

YSV Dutta, who recently quit the JDS and joined the Congress, on Friday made a ‘ghar wapsi’ for the JDS within 89 days, leaving the Congress to shame. The Congress denied him a ticket from Kadur, giving ticket to DK Shivakumar loyalist Anand KS. He also considered contesting as an independent.

Dutta and Kumaraswamy’s relations have been strained over the years. His return to the JDS has raised tensions between the Gowda brothers, Kumaraswamy and Revanna, but Revanna said the decision to take back the former MLA from Kadur was his father’s wish.

When there is nowhere to go…

JDS seems to be the party of choice to contest this election when politicians from the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been denied tickets. Congress leader Raghu Achar joined the JDS on April 14, while former BJP MLA Doddappa Gowda Patil Naribol, who defeated former Congress CM Dharam Singh in 2008 and later in 2013 and 2018, also joined Singh’s son Dr Ajay Singh. Kumaraswamy met.

Kumaraswamy has said that though he cannot reveal the names of the leaders who have met him and expressed interest in joining, his party will soon organize a ‘welcome ceremony’ for all those who have joined the BJP and the Congress. Have left
