Jay-Z becomes most Grammy-nominated artist in history

Rapper-producer Jay-Z has become the most nominated artist in Grammy Awards history, with three of his 2022 nominations pushing him to 83.

He first hooked up with legendary producer/musician Quincy Jones at the age of 80, reports Variety.com.

Jay-Z, who last released an album in 2017, is nominated for a guest appearance alongside rapper Kanye West and the late DMX. He currently has 23 wins.

Paul McCartney, who previously tied for second place with Beyoncé, receives twice in the rock category and passes her and Jones for the sole possession of the No. 2 spot with 81.

Neither Jones nor Beyoncé have been nominated for the 2022 Awards, although Q wrote the liner notes for top nominee John Battist’s “We Are” album.

Jay-Z scored a Grammy bow three times in 1999, two from his classic “Volume 2 Hard Knock Life” album and one for his tag-team with Jermaine Dupree, ‘Money Ain’t a Thang’.

He won but did not attend the awards, later stating that he “boycotted” them because fellow New Yorker DMX was not nominated despite racking up two No.

Jay, who turns 52 next month, has since been nominated in 18 out of 22 Grammy years, even though his release schedule has slowed significantly over the past decade.

The Brooklyn native’s biggest Grammy-winning years were 2009, 2010 and 2012, when he took home three times each.

Ironically, they didn’t win any trophy in their most nominated year, 2017, when their “4:44” album and related singles and videos took home a total of eight awards.

This did not improve his complicated relationship with the Grammys, and Jay-Z clearly expressed his opinion on the matter in ‘Apes**’, which was released the following year on his duet album with wife Beyoncé, ‘Everything Is Love’. But released.

McCartney’s first of 18 wins came in 1964 with two as a member of the Beatles, winning an award for Best New Artist as well as the song “A Hard Day’s Night”.

Next in line after Jones and Beyonce are Stevie Wonder and the late classical conductor George Solty, who tied with 74; and tied with film-music maestro Henry Mancini and John Williams, 72, neither of whom have a 2022 nomination.
