Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action for a long time as he missed the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup last year.

East India Opening batsman Robin Uthappa feels that all eyes will be on Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Bumrah, who suffered a back injury last year, could not play in the important Asia Cup and T20. World Cup and is yet to recover from it. The premier fast bowler has been left out of the Indian team for the first two matches against Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Bumrah was set to make a comeback to competitive cricket with the Sri Lanka ODI last month but was ruled out once again due to not recovering in time. The premier pacer has come under a lot of scrutiny in recent times due to his recent spate of injuries, but India snapped up his services during last year’s T20 World Cup.

Uthappa suggested that if Bumrah is able to play all the matches in IPL 2023, it will boost his and the Indian team’s confidence.

“I think he should definitely play IPL. If he plays the full IPL, it will give him a lot of confidence not only in himself but also in the team, players, spectators and supporters ahead of the World Cup. Bumrah playing IPL will send the message that he is fit.

India will need Bumrah’s services in this year’s ODI World Cup but his fitness will be of utmost importance and the management has a huge task of managing his workload and at the same time giving him enough playing time for the mega tournament .

Uthappa further questioned the National Cricket Academy for delaying Bumrah’s recovery and looks like Bumrah must be thinking about the same.

“Bumrah must be at a place right now where he wants answers. He must be thinking – ‘What is really happening to me. Why am I not getting well’? NCA will have to answer this. There are huge and amazing rehab facilities. So, the NCA has to answer what is happening there, why the physios are not able to prepare him?” Uthappa added.

The veteran opener gave his verdict on Rahul Dravid’s coaching tenure so far and said that he is the best person to handle pressure situations.

“It has been a bit of a mixed bag. I know the effort he is putting in is very genuine. I am sure as a coach he will have to deal with a lot more. Indian cricket is not easy to deal with. Because there are different cultures and different pressures. You would probably feel that Rahul Dravid is one of the best people to handle these things.”
