Japanese Encephalitis: Four more people die in Assam, death toll rises to 27

GUWAHATI: Four more people died of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Assam on Saturday, taking the death toll this month to 27, according to a release issued by the National Health Mission. The state reported nine new cases during the day this month, taking this month’s tally to 169. All the four deaths have been reported from Jorhat district.

Three cases were reported from Golaghat district, two each from Sibsagar and Sonitpur and one each from Goalpara and Kokrajhar districts.

Four deaths and 16 new JE cases were reported in the state on Friday.

All the districts have formed District Rapid Response Teams on Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and JE.

An official said that the standard operating procedures and guidelines laid down by the National Health Mission, Assam are being followed in all districts for AES/JE case detection, management and referral.
