Japan registers first locally transmitted Omicron cases – Henry’s Club

Australia’s New South Wales state (NSW) on Thursday reported a record new Covid-19 cases with 5,715 infections for the third day in a row.

The daily total is about 2,000 more cases than the previous day. And only on Tuesday, NSW reported more than 3,000 cases daily for the first time during the pandemic.

With Covid cases rising rapidly in Australia, the Omicron version poses a new threat as states and cities begin to ease restrictions.

One death was reported nationwide since Wednesday: a man in his 40s who was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions, NSW Health said in a release.

NSW – Australia’s most populous state – currently has 347 Covid-19 patients in hospital, 45 of whom are in intensive care, 13 of whom require ventilation.

NSW Health said the state has recorded a total of 112,307 COVID-19 cases.

Victoria’s cases rise: The neighboring southern state of Victoria reported 2,005 new cases on Thursday – an increase of more than 500 infections compared to the previous day, according to a media release from the Department of Health.

The hospital in Victoria has 398 Covid-19 patients, 72 of whom are in intensive care, and 39 of them are on ventilators.
