Bhubaneswar: A delegation of the state government is likely to visit Japan soon to discuss investment opportunities Orissa With Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings, which is a follow-up to the recently held Japan Symposium.
State Industries Secretary Hemant Sharma said the outcome of the Japan symposium was that Mitsubishi Group had shown interest to invest in the state, especially in the chemical sector.
“Our officials will soon visit Japan to discuss investment opportunities in Odisha with the Mitsubishi Group. There are some other leads which we are following up with potential investors,” Sharma said.
Official sources said the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL) is working on the itinerary of the proposed visit to Japan.
During the seminar, Industries Secretary highlighted the natural advantages of Odisha in terms of mineral based industries.
“We have been able to attract an investment of Rs 4 lakh crore in the last two years. Now, due to huge investments in infrastructure, ports, rail, roads, power and skill development, we are the preferred destination for diverse industries,” explained Sharma. He also talked about the industry-specific infrastructure and opportunities in Odisha for industrial development.
Japanese Ambassador Satoshi Suzuki, who led a business delegation to Odisha as part of the business summit, lauded the state’s efforts to attract investments from abroad, including a large number of Japanese companies.
He also praised the single window portal Go-Swift for facilitating all industrial information, incentives and various services. The diplomat said there has been an increase in the number of Japanese companies in Odisha in the last 10 years.
Union Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who was part of the seminar, briefed the Japanese delegation about the recent plans and actions taken by the Center to promote industrial and economic development. The Union Secretary also praised the industrial structure of the state.
Top executives of companies like ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel, TRL Krosaki Tata Group, Aditya Birla, Indo-Nisin Foods, Reliance and mind tree, who has already invested in Odisha, shared his experiences with potential investors from Japan.
Welcoming the Japanese investors to Odisha, State Industries Minister Divya Shankar Mishra said that Japan has been an important partner of India and Odisha. “Our state under the leadership of Chief Minister” Naveen PatnaikCommitted to forge an enduring relationship with Japan, both in the industrial and cultural spheres,” said Mishra.
