Incessant rain triggered landslides and flash floods in several areas of Japan, killing two people and leaving six missing, officials said on Monday.

Flooded roads disrupted traffic, train movement and water supplies in several parts of the Kyushu and Chūgoku regions.

The heavy rain in Kyushu prompted an emergency warning issued by the Japan Meteorological Department, advising people living on hillsides or along river banks to take precautions, AP reports.

Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency reported two deaths, while six others were missing. One of the dead was buried under a landslide in Fukuoka Prefecture.

Rescue operations are continuing in other areas of Japan. According to Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, a government task force has been formed to rescue people in sensitive areas.

Heavy rains and floods are wreaking havoc in many Asian countries including India, Pakistan and China. Many people have lost their lives due to heavy rains.
