Police said the accident took place at around 6 am on National Highway-333A near Pipra village in Lakhisarai district when his SUV collided with a truck loaded with empty LPG cylinders. The truck driver and co-driver fled.
Halsi police station in-charge Awadhesh Kumar said that Laljit was a resident of Bhandara village under Khaira police station area while his daughter Baby was a resident of Malaypur. Ratanpur’s niece Daisy and Sonpeh’s driver Pritam, all belong to Jamui district.
The SHO said that the injured Balmiki Singh (60) and his son Prashant Kumar alias Even then (24) of Nawadih; Balmukund Singh (60) of Chauhandih and his son Dilkhush Singh (23) were referred to Patna for treatment. “Valmiki is Amit’s father-in-law. Balmukund is the brother-in-law of Laljit. Daisy was his daughter,” said SHO Kumar.
The SHO said that Geeta had died in Patna during treatment. “They were returning to Jamui after performing his last rites at Bans Ghat,” he said.
He said the SUV in which the entire family was traveling was damaged to such an extent that two bodies, including the driver, were trapped inside for over an hour.
