Police said tension prevailed in the area since Saturday (April 8), when members of a local outfit found a piece of meat tagged on a Ram Navami flag. Several such organizations protested and demanded the police to arrest the culprits within 24 hours.

The situation turned violent on Sunday when a shop was set on fire and brickbats from both sides left six people injured. The mob also set an autorickshaw on fire, prompting the police to fire tear gas shells.

DIG (Kolhan) Ajay Linda said local miscreants torched shops and auto rickshaws.
