Jammu and Kashmir Receives Fresh Snowfall; Flights Delayed, Trains Halted

Jammu and Kashmir: There has been heavy snowfall in the Kashmir region. The snowstorm has disrupted surface travel in the area. The Srinagar Jammu National Highway connecting Kashmir with the rest of India has been closed due to heavy snowfall. The Srinagar-Leh highway and other important routes connecting Srinagar to the outskirts of Kashmir were also closed. Air traffic was also affected.

Srinagar airport said in a statement, “Our visibility is only 200 meters and it is snowing continuously. We are simultaneously clearing the snow. All flights are delayed. Please arrive at the airport early to avoid inconvenience and avoid overcrowding.” Check the status of your flight with your airlines beforehand.

Train services have also been affected in the valley due to snowfall. All train services have been suspended in the Kashmir region. Train service will remain suspended till the snow is removed from the railway line. Railways will resume its operations as soon as the snow clears. After the snow is cleared, first WDS will go to 4, after that the train is expected to run. Kashmir Railway said in a statement.

In view of the fresh snowfall in the valley, the government has changed the schedule of all postgraduate examinations in the valley. Controller Examination Kashmir University said, “All PG, Engineering and other examinations scheduled to be held on January 30, 2023 (Monday) stand postponed in view of inclement weather conditions, new dates for postponed examinations will be notified separately later.” ” The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain in the entire Kashmir region today.
