Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested two persons responsible for the grenade attack

new Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested two persons in connection with Sunday’s grenade blast in Srinagar that killed two civilians and injured 36 others, officials reported by news agency PTI.

The first accused, identified as Mohammad Barik, was arrested from Khanyar and his preliminary investigation prompted the arrest of the latter accused, Fazil Nabi Sofi.

The bike used in this grenade attack was also confiscated by the Special Investigation Team, which was implicated after the terror attack.

During its investigation, the team used modern means of investigation and used technical evidence like CCTV recording of crime scene, CCTV recording across Srinagar city, cell tower dump analysis, IP dump analysis. , by recreation of the crime scene and the assessment of some eyewitnesses, the officials said.

In view of these, the SIT had the option to separate the two convicts, who came on the bike without the number plate and fled in the same vehicle after committing the wrongdoing.

During a thorough checking of the CCTV trail in Srinagar city, the route adopted by both the accused was located in the Khanyar area of ​​the central city.

He said that it further emerged that both these accused had committed the terrorist act on the instructions of the terrorists operating in the Kashmir Valley.

The plan was to attack the parked security vehicle, but the target was missed as the grenade was hurled from a moving two-wheeler and the grenade exploded in the adjacent crowded area, where several roadside vendors and buyers were present.

Officials said it was also found that this particular area was chosen because of the all-encompassing chaos and turbulent traffic in this part of the area due to unorganized vendors and stalls on the road.

There have been two other grenade attacks in the region recently – the first on August 10, 2021 and the second on January 25, 2022.

Due to this act of throwing grenade, panic, panic and anger spread among the people in the entire city of Srinagar.

According to the advisory issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, the J&K Police also requested all commercial establishments and shops to install CCTV cameras inside and outside their establishments.

This will act as a strong deterrent to all anti-social elements.

The incident took place on March 6 when a grenade exploded near Amira Kadal bridge in the heart of the city at around 4:20 pm, injuring 38 people.

Later, two of the civilians injured succumbed to injuries – 79-year-old Mohd Aslam Makhdoomi and 19-year-old Rafia Nazir, who had secured 94 per cent marks in the class 12 examination.
