A Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in the Jalur operation, while three others managed to escape.

At least two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Kupwara district, while another encounter took place in Shopian district, police said. One of those killed in the Kupwara encounter was from Pakistan.

A police spokesman said security forces launched a joint special operation after receiving information about the movement of terrorists in Kupwara’s Kandi area.

Two terrorists, including a foreigner, were killed in the encounter and their bodies were recovered from the spot. They have been identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Lone, a resident of Tral, and Tufail, a resident of Lahore, Pakistan. The spokesman said that both of them were linked to the banned terrorist group Lashkar.

It is believed that they were about to receive the terrorists who fled during an operation in Jalur area of ​​Sopore on Monday.

He said a Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in the Zalura operation, while three others managed to escape.

Incriminating material and arms and ammunition including two AK-series rifles have been recovered from the encounter site. According to the spokesperson, the search operation is still going on in the area to nab other hiding terrorists.

The spokesman said the security forces launched another operation after receiving specific information about the presence of a terrorist in the gardens of Badimarg Alura area of ​​South Kashmir’s Shopian.

As the forces moved towards the spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire on them indiscriminately. He said the forces retaliated, which resulted in the elimination of the terrorist.

The slain terrorist has been identified as Nadeem Ahmed Rather alias Kamran resident Ashmuji, Kulgam, they said.

As per police records, Rather was a classified terrorist, active since 2020. He had recently entered HM from Lashkar.

Rather, he was part of groups involved in several terror cases, including attacks on police and security forces, and civil atrocities.

The spokesman said that he was also involved in the murder of Kulpora Panch on March 2.

Incriminating material and arms and ammunition including one AK rifle and one SLR have been recovered from the encounter site. He said that all the recovered materials have been included in the case record for further investigation.

Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar congratulated the forces for carrying out the operation without any collateral damage. He also congratulated the Shopian Police for busting the IED blast case and arresting the accused persons in record minimum time.
