Jammu and Kashmir massacre: Amit Shah chairs high-level meeting to review situation

New Delhi: In the wake of civilian killings in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level security meeting at his office in the national capital’s North Block.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Arvind Kumar were present in the meeting.

ANI reported that the meeting, which was also attended by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) chief Kuldeep Singh and Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Pankaj Singh, lasted for around 2.45 hours.

The meeting assumes significance because in an incident of targeted killings in the Kashmir Valley, a government school principal and a teacher were killed earlier in the day by terrorists in Srinagar.

“Terrorists shot dead two school teachers at around 11 am at Sangam Idgah in Srinagar district,” a police officer said.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, terrorists killed a businessman in Srinagar. The incident took place near Iqbal Park in Srinagar where terrorists opened fire on Bindu Medicate owner Makhan Lal Bindu. Kashmiri Pandit Bindru was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A street hawker, identified as Virendra Paswan, a resident of Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, was also gunned down by terrorists near Madin Sahib in Hawal on the outskirts of Srinagar city on Tuesday evening.

A taxi driver Mohammad Shafi Lone was also shot dead by terrorists at Naidkhai in Bandipora district.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said that these recent incidents of targeting of civilians are meant to create an atmosphere of fear and communal disharmony.

“It is a conspiracy to target the local ethos and values ​​and defame the local Kashmiri Muslims. This is being done on the instructions of agencies in Pakistan,” he said.
