Jammu: Taking welfare initiatives to make their lives easier and bring smiles to their family members, Indian Army Wednesday brought a smile to the family of a remotely handicapped child Kishtwar By providing wheelchairs.

Col Anand said, “Waris Hussain Wani, (09) was born with innate clubfoot but his actions and the spirit with which he has moved forward in life is an inspiration to all, other children of his age. Like he does, he goes to school, studies well and does most of the work himself.”
“Life in the mountains is really difficult, but it has made Waris Hussain even more difficult, and strengthened his grit and resolve,” said PRO Defence.
He said, “He has always dreamed of becoming a teacher and a contributor to the society. His life was going on as normal until he was spotted by the Indian Army at the Mughal Maidan in January 2022.”
Colonel Anand said, “Seeing their enthusiasm, the Army stepped in to ease their hardships. Efforts were made by the Army to seek help and provide them wheelchairs and disability pension.”
“Continuing the same, the efforts made on social media and coordination with the District Social Welfare Department helped in achieving the desired results when finally, the Social Welfare Department of the District Administration Kishtwar gave Waris Hussain and his disability pension. Documents have been processed for this,” Col Anand said.
Colonel Anand said, “Waris Hussain is full of confidence, with his new wheelchair and pension, his resolve towards making his dream of becoming a teacher has become even stronger.”
Col Anand said, “He is currently in class IV and has already become a role model for the boys and youth of the region.”
A local said, “It is a wonderful initiative as persons with disabilities are largely financially backward family And they can’t afford expensive wheelchairs.”
