Jammu and Kashmir: 30 kg of ‘narcotics’ worth about Rs 25 crore recovered from Line of Control in Uri

Srinagar: Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rais Mohammad Bhat said on Sunday that Indian Army personnel have recovered around 30 kg of banned substance worth about Rs 25 crore in the black market along the Line of Control (LoC). ) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

“A search of the area found that a banned substance, most likely drugs, was dropped there,” he said.

The top police officer said that the peddlers, who were trying to smuggle drugs into the Indian side of the Line of Control, fled on seeing the movement of the soldiers.

Bhat said that two bags bearing Pakistani marks were recovered from the spot, which contained about 25 to 30 kg of narcotic substance.

“The exact nature of the heroin-like substance is being ascertained through the concerned authorities. The value of suspected drug in black marketing is around Rs 20-25 crore.

A cap, two backpacks and two bar bags were also recovered from the spot, the IPS officer said.

Stating that legal proceedings have been initiated after the suspected drug was handed over to the police, the top police officer said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law.

The SSP further said, “The huge consignment of narcotics along the LoC shows the nefarious designs of the Pakistan-based narco-terror nexus and its intent to promote terrorism and finance terrorism in India.”

“This expose of drugs is a big blow to the nexus,” he said.
