Jamie Overton 3rd Test vs NZ. Twin Brother Craig joined the England team for

Surrey pacer Jamie Overton was on Thursday called up for England’s third and final Test against New Zealand, which includes twin brother Craig in the 14-man squad.

The uncapped Overton, who is a three-minute younger brother, made his way into the 14-man group this season after taking 21 wickets for the County Championship Division One leader.

The 28-year-old, who has been hampered by injuries throughout his career, was called up to England’s one-day squad in 2013 but has not played international cricket.

Overton, who had previously played with Craig at Somerset, is the only extra in the 13-man group named for the first two Tests.

Overton faced off in a County Championship match between Somerset and Surrey this week, in which Craig was hurt after being hit by a bouncer from Jamie.

No twins have played international cricket for England before, a record that is likely to remain intact as Craig has been an unused team member in the first two matches against the Kiwis.

But if conditions suit the fast bowlers, as they often do at Leeds, England can replace spinner Jack Leach with an extra pace option and put Overton in direct competition for a spot.

Jamie is a relaxed fast bowler, having run 90 miles (145 kph) this season.

But Craig Overton has produced a more reliable performance in first-class cricket, with 402 wickets, taking eight Test caps and playing four One Day Internationals, compared to Jamie’s 206.

Ben Stokes’ England took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series against New Zealand after winning the second Test by five wickets at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.

England squad for third test:

Ben Stokes (c), James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brooke, Jack Crowley, Ben Fox (wk), Jack Leach, Alex Lees, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts, Ollie Pope, Joe Root
