Jake Sullivan holds talks with NSA Ajit Doval on emerging technology ahead of PM Modi’s US visit

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday while on an official visit to New Delhi from June 13 to 14. He was accompanied by a delegation of senior US government officials and leaders.

The two NSAs have been regularly engaged in wide-ranging discussions on a wide-ranging bilateral, regional and global agenda. The current talks, coming in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the US, will provide him an opportunity to continue his high-level dialogue which will include a review of the strong and multi-faceted cooperation between the two. Following the launch of the India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (CETs) by Prime Minister Modi and President Joe Biden during the QUAD Summit in Tokyo on 24 May 2022, the two NSAs have also made a concerted effort between the two. Countries to engage in identified areas of cooperation including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Semiconductors, Telecom, Defense and Space. The current visit of M Sullivan will thus provide an opportunity for the two NSAs to review the progress made so far and set new priorities and objectives for the CET.

Earlier today, the two National Security Advisors met for limited discussions on regional and global issues of great interest. Later in the evening, he participated in the second Track 1.5 dialogue on ICET organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry. The first edition of this dialogue was organized by the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC on 30 January 2023.

The NSA addressed the participants in the dialogue, which included prominent representatives from academia and industry from both the countries. They expressed satisfaction at the progress made under ICET and encouraged stakeholders on both sides to strive for technology value chain partnerships that would pave the way for co-development and production of high technology and services in both countries.

During the visit, NSA Sullivan will also call on External Affairs Minister Dr. Jashankar and other dignitaries from the Government of India.
