Jadon Sancho Says ‘Hate Will Never Win’ In A Heartfelt Post On Racial Abuse After Euro 2020

London: England striker Jadon Sancho has opened up about the racial abuses he, Marcus Rashford and Saka faced. All of them missed their respective penalties in the Euro 2020 final against Italy. Sancho said that “society needs to get better”.

An artwork in Withington, Manchester was mutilated by some English supporters after the penalty shootout. That mural has been repainted and repaired with messages of love and hope for the 23-year-old striker.

Sancho said, “I’m not going [to] Pretend I didn’t see the racial abuse my brothers Marcus and Bukayo received after the game, but sadly it’s nothing new,” he wrote on his social media accounts.

“As a society, we need to do better and hold these people accountable,” Sancho said. “Hate will never win. To all the youth who have received similar abuses, keep your head held high and keep chasing the dream.”

“I was ready and confident to take it. These are the moments that you dream of as a child, that’s why I play football. As a footballer you want to be in these pressure situations. I’ve had the first penalty at club level. I have practiced them countless times for both club and country. I chose my corner, but this time it didn’t have to be.”

“I am proud of this England team and how we have united the entire nation in a difficult 18 months for so many people,” he said.

“I want to say a big thank you to all the positive messages and the love and support that far outweigh the negatives. It is an honor to always represent England and wear a Three Lions shirt, and I have no doubt that we Will be even stronger! Stay safe and see you soon.”
