Bundesliga made five substitutions, match day 3 to welcome fans

The German Football League (DFL) said on Wednesday that the Bundesliga and second-tier Bundesliga 2 will allow five substitutions per match in the 2021-22 season, while away fans will be allowed to attend games from August 3 onwards.

Football’s law-making body IFAB gave the competition’s organizers the option to allow teams to continue using five substitutes per game until the end of 2022, and the DFL’s Extraordinary Member Assembly took the option.

Most of last season’s matches were played without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic – with away fans barred – and the DFL said match day three had been chosen for their return as teams were forced to welcome the crowds again. Will need to get used to it.

“While spectator capacity is still subject to legal restrictions, 5% of tickets for each game are reserved for away fans,” the DFL said.

“Once the ban is completely lifted, there will be an automatic withdrawal for the intended crew of 10%.”

The Bundesliga’s new season begins on 13 August, with defending champions Bayern Munich playing in Borussia Moenchengladbach.
