J&K: 9 political parties invited to meet Delimitation Commission on July 6; know the details

Srinagar: The Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir has invited nine political parties for consultations with the Delimitation Commission in Srinagar on July 6.

Invitations have been sent to the parties for the meeting to be held at Hotel Grand Lalit on 6th July.

According to sources, the political parties that have been invited for deliberations include National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Apni Party, CPI-M, People’s Conference, Congress, JKANC, NTP and BJP.

“The Delimitation Commission is visiting the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir since July 6 and during the visit, the Commission has held meetings with political parties in Srinagar and Jammu from 3:30 am to 6:30 pm on 6 July and on 8 July. from 8th July from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM respectively,” the letter reads.

“Accordingly, I am directed to request you to give the names and contact numbers of the members (maximum five persons) of your party’s delegation at both the places (Srinagar and Jammu) so that necessary time slots can be reserved and advance accordingly. to be apprised in this manner,” the letter from the Chief Electoral Officer added.

It is also requested that the written representation/memorandum may also be shared with the office or with the Commission in advance at the time of meeting.

The delimitation assumes significance because after the abrogation of Article 370 by the central government and removal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, both the Lok Sabha and the assembly constituencies have to be demarcated under the Constitution.

As per the 2019 Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, the new legislature in the erstwhile state will have 90 assembly seats.
