The Australian team has come under attack after conceding defeat in the second Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Delhi. Now, legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist has weighed in on his questionable selection and the absence of Ashton Agar from the playing XI.

“There are rumblings that Agar may fly home because he may feel like he is surplus to requirements there, and I can understand why, without having attended camp and knowing that’s why he wasn’t picked. But it’s a huge insult I know from touring and having been on a lot of tours, you felt that if you get picked in a wider squad on tour – as long as it’s that Not too extreme to kind of come in as you’d normally expect from people who were previously in the reserves,” Gilchrist said.

Gilchrist further suggested that there could be some changes in Australia’s playing XI due to the disappointing performance of some players. He added that it could be Matthew Renshaw who could be dropped from the playing XI in the upcoming matches.

“Maybe they keep three spinners if that’s the situation warrants and then Green comes in and adds that nice balance, looks like Renshaw is probably the guy who’ll be out of it because it happens that He looks like he’s a little nervous about where he fits into the picture,” he said.

Agar was selected as one of the four specialist spinners for the four-match Test series.

Australia were expected to support spinner Nathan Lyon if on spin-friendly pitches. However, the all-rounder is yet to play a match.

Todd Murphy was given his debut in the first Test and took seven wickets.
