‘It’s a mission accomplished for us as a team’: South Africa captain Temba Bavuma after 3-0 series win over India

Captain Temba Bavuma feels that a 3-0 series win over India is a mission accomplished for South Africa as a team. The Proteas beat India once again in the third ODI to register a thrilling 4-run victory. At one point, South Africa lost the plot in the slog overs as Deepak Chahar took the game to a close with his 54-run knock, however, the hosts struggled to beat India in the final two overs.

Bavuma admitted that things were a bit crazy in the end for South Africa but he was happy to have won.

“Things were a little crazy in the end. The complacency got us when we thought we had game in the bag but we managed to bring things back. A little bit crazy,” Bavuma said in a post-match presentation.

Bavuma said the 3-0 win is very satisfying for him and the team as not many people gave him the opportunity to do so at the start of the series.

“Very satisfying, it is a mission accomplished for us as a team. Not many people gave us much chance. I hope we have shown by our performance that we have got some more supporters, even Also with you guys in the commentary box.”

The Proteas captain praised the batting unit for performing against a quality Indian team throughout the ODI series.

“Quinton has been great, he has shown what a valuable asset he is. The ropes have also been tremendous. Overall the batsmen were pretty good. Bowling too, not just individually but as a group today.”

Bavuma further spoke about South Africa’s overall performance against India in both the Test and ODI series.

“It was a big challenge and hurdle in our journey, winning two series will be good for our confidence. Test series was the toughest series I was a part of, Indian bowlers kept asking tough questions, even the intensity of the fielding was high. Even in ODIs it was not easy, very challenging. Even in these conditions, which were more subcontinent-like, this is another feather in our cap,” Bavuma said.
