The top court told the Kerala High Court that the compensation to the owner of the fishing boat ‘St Antony’ should not be distributed yet.

The Supreme Court gave an important order on Thursday in the firing case of Italian marines. The top court asked the Kerala High Court not to distribute the compensation to the owner of the fishing boat ‘St Antony’ yet. This amount is two crore rupees. 10 fishermen have claimed a stake in this. He was aboard ‘St Antony’ in February 2012 when two of his comrades were killed in firing by Italian marines.

A bench of Supreme Court Justices Indira Banerjee and V Ramasubramanian heard the fishermen’s plea. The fishermen said that they should also get their share in the compensation fixed for the boat owner. Because they too were injured in that incident. To this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, “The petition of these fishermen can be sent to the Kerala High Court, which has been given the responsibility of disbursing the compensation.”

10 crores Rs. compensation of
A total compensation of Rs 10 crore was given to the kin of the fishermen killed in the firing and the boat owner. Following this, the apex court had closed the nine-year-old criminal case on June 15 this year. The court had directed that Rs 4 crore each would be given to the dependents of the two fishermen and the remaining Rs 2 crore would be given to the boat owner.
