‘It Wasn’t a Performance Worth a Final’, Gautam Gambhir Slams New Zealand’s Performance Vs Australia

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has criticized New Zealand’s performance t20 world cup performance, where they lost to Australia by eight wickets in Dubai. Kane Williamson acted with the bat as the Blackcaps set a target of 173 for their trans-Tasman rivals. Australia, in turn, chased down the target with seven balls to spare as their bowler stumbled on the biggest stage of them all.

“After India (for the T20 World Cup) my favorite team was New Zealand. It was not a pleasant experience to see him being bullied like a trainee,” wrote Gambhir in his column for TOI.

“New Zealand is a team that prides itself on careful planning, clear role definition, precise execution and doing it all without any fanfare… If I were a supporter of New Zealand, I would be refunded seeing my team everywhere in the second half. Would have demanded.. It was not a performance worthy of the final.”

Gautam Gambhir said that he is not completely impressed with how the Kane Williamson-led Black Caps carried themselves in the second half of the mega clash.

“He batted very well to score 172 for four. Often such scores are not that difficult to defend, especially with a balanced attack like New Zealand. But clearly they got this opportunity as they didn’t seem to be the same team that beat India or England in the semi-finals,” he wrote.
