Dew is a major factor in determining the outcome of evening matches in India. IPL There has been no exception with teams preferring to bat second with bowlers to deal with the added challenge of controlling the wet ball.
Wednesday in Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, the Punjab Kings bowlers were struggling to maintain control of the ball, with the Rajasthan Royals’ chase of 198 threatening. PBKS though would go on to win by five runs.

With 16 runs to defend from six balls, and the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel well set in the middle, PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan handed the ball to Sam Curran, the most expensive buy in IPL history.
Curran, who had skyrocketed after his Player of the Tournament performance in the T20 World Cup last year, found his Test breakthrough with 10 runs in an over.

“I think when it comes to those situations, you know if you bowl your yorker, you’ll be fine. Some days it works and some days it doesn’t but luckily This was our day,” Curren said.
Curran however was unhappy with the fact that his team could not turn the ball even though it felt like soap, while how RR turned their ball.
“I was trying to change my ball because it was like soap. I don’t really understand why they changed their ball, but we can’t do anything about it.

“It’s surprisingly difficult. You try to train by immersing the balls in water. It’s incredibly difficult to catch the seam. You try to bowl cross seam but bowling a yorker cross seam is not a natural ball. It Extremely difficult but everyone has to do it so no real complaints.”
PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan was all praise for Curran’s bowling and admitted that he was nervous towards the end.
He said, ‘There were some nervous moments but I was calm and it was the same with the bowlers. There was a lot of dew. The bowlers did a great job. I was happy with the score we scored. He bowled well and bowled a very good yorker,” Dhawan said.
He said, ‘After scoring 197 runs, my bowlers took quick wickets and kept the pressure on and then Nathan came and took wickets. We never let go of the game. There were moments that were tough but I think it was a great team effort.”
