IT spending in India to cross $101 billion in 2022: Report

IT spending, driven by boom in digital transformation due to pandemic India Global market research firm Gartner on Wednesday said the total is estimated at $101.8 billion (about Rs 7,63,000 crore) in 2022, a 7 percent increase from 2021. In 2022, all segments of IT spending in India are expected to grow, with software emerging as the largest growing segment.

Spending on software is projected to total $10.5 billion in 2022, up 14.4 percent from 2021. Expenditure on software in 2022 is projected to nearly double what it was pre-pandemic, experiencing a slower growth rate than in 2021. “India experienced the fastest recovery despite being one of the worst-hit regions in the second wave of the pandemic in early 2021,” said Arup Roy, Gartner’s vice president of research.

As the country adopts hybrid work, spending on equipment will increase, reaching $44 billion in 2022, a 7.5 percent increase from 2021. “The growth in devices is a combination of two components—Hybrid Work and Paint—the growth in demand from 2020 for device upgrades,” Roy said. “Spend on devices will account for 43 percent of total IT spending next year.”

Next year, Indian CIOs are prioritizing moving away from rigid and monolithic ways of doing business to a more responsive business and IT architecture, where they will be able to better respond to disruptions.

“In 2022, CIOs in India will drive a renewed interest in technology from business to secure funding for new IT projects,” Roy said.
