The Indian Premier League is likely to have a proper women’s tournament from 2023. Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah has said that the tournament will be a priority for them and they will do everything to make it happen next year.

Women’s IPL has been a demand of the public for the past several years, who are agitated by the lack of focus in the women’s game. However, that could all change with the women’s IPL next year.

Former IPL chairman and the brain behind the Indian Premier League, Lalit Modi opined on the tournament and said that every IPL franchise should have a women’s team, rather it should be made mandatory.

“I haven’t seen much in IPL women’s games this year (Women’s T20 Challenge), but I think one of the biggest things they should do is make it mandatory for IPL franchises to have a women’s team,” Lalit Modi told NDTV.

“If the owner of an IPL franchise has a women’s team, you will see the bench strength in Indian women’s cricket. You will see investment in women’s cricket by owners who are already making decent money,” he said. Told.

After a three-day e-auction in June, the IPL sold its media rights at an astronomical price and is currently considered one of the most expensive sports leagues in the world.

Modi said IPL franchises can have women’s teams as they are all profitable and have the ability to invest the required amount in the game.

He lauded the BCCI for the move and said it was the right thing to do.

“Amazing move. This is a big boost for the women’s sport and I am really happy,” Modi said.

The old edition of the Women’s IPL was a T20 challenge consisting of three teams and played a total of four matches. Many fans were upset about the tournament, which seemed like an afterthought for the BCCI.
