Israel on Monday issued an updated travel warning for Turkey amid fears of an Iranian response to the killing of a senior officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps last week.
Colonel Hassan Sayyed Khodai was shot five times last week in his car by two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle in the middle of Tehran. He was reportedly involved in killings and kidnappings outside Iran, including attempts to target Israelis.
“For several weeks, and even more so since Iran blamed Israel for the death of a Revolutionary Guards officer last week, there has been growing concern in the defense establishment about Iranian attempts to damage Israeli targets around the world. is,” the National Security Council said in a statement.
The National Security Council said it was “intensifying” travel warnings for Turkey, stressing that countries bordering Iran and other nations pose “a high level of risk to Israelis these days”. We do.
Security officials said the warnings followed “real threats to the Israelis” in Turkey, which they did not specify.
“Israeli citizens should remain vigilant and follow the necessary precautions when traveling to one of these countries,” the NSC statement said.
Iranian authorities have yet to trace the suspects, even though the incident took place in the middle of one of Tehran’s safest areas – Mohydin-e Eslam Street, home of other senior officials at the IRGC and its elite Quds force.
Israel, which has not officially commented on the incident, has reportedly raised the security alert level at its embassies and consulates around the world, fearing a retaliatory strike by Iran.
The killing of Khodai was the most high-profile killing inside Iran since the assassination of top nuclear scientist Mohsin Fakhrizadeh in November 2020.
