Twenty-four civilians, including 10 children, were injured, the ministry said in a statement.

The Israeli military told AFP that “hundreds of rioters and protesters” had gathered near the border fence.

“The Al-Aqsa Mosque is a red line, and any attack on it will be met with the brave resistance of our people,” the movement said in a statement.
The protests came just three months after Israel and Hamas reconciled after the deadliest fighting in years.
For more than 11 days in May, Israel launched air strikes on Gaza in response to rockets fired from the enclave.
Hamas said the action was taken after Israeli security forces raided al-Aqsa.
Reconstruction in Gaza has stalled since the May 21 armistice, partly because of a crippling blockade Israel has maintained on the enclave since Hamas seized power in 2007.
On Thursday, Israel announced it would allow funds from Qatar to reach poor Palestinians in Gaza. Other restrictions remain.
In 2018, Gazan He started a protest movement demanding the end of the Israeli blockade and the right of Palestinians to return to the fleeing lands after the establishment of the Jewish state.
Hamas-backed weekly demonstrations, which were often violent, spread as far away as Israel killing about 350 Palestinians in Gaza in more than a year.
