However, the Highlanders took the lead just a minute before the half-time whistle. A header from Deshorn Brown hit the left post and fell on Marco Sahanek, who made no mistake and pressed his left footed shot into the lower-right corner.
The second half did not start as planned for Khaled Jameel’s side as Patrick Floatman’s push on Fran Sota during an aerial battle was deemed a foul in the box, which resulted in a penalty. Perosevic equalized from the penalty spot after sending Mirshad Michu down the wrong track.
Marcelinho came off the bench to inject some energy into the last third for NEUFC and combined with Suhair but the latter’s volley was skilfully carried away in the goal by Shankar Roy.
Four minutes were added for stoppage but neither team had the lead to score the winner in the end. With nothing to separate the two teams, the game ended in a draw, much to the dismay of the players in both sets.
SC East Bengal will take the wraps off their ISL season by playing Bengaluru FC here on Saturday while NorthEast United’s campaign comes to an end.
