ISL: Bengaluru FC signed Spanish midfielder Xavier Hernandez

BENGALURU: Indian Super League (ISL) club Bengaluru FC on Wednesday announced the signing of Spanish midfielder Xavi Hernandez on a two-year deal ahead of the 2022-23 season.

The Bluez confirmed Hernandez’s signature through his social media handle.

“Hola Javi! Spanish attacker @javih89 has put on paper a two-year deal with Blues,” Bengaluru FC said in a tweet.

The 33-year-old has represented ATK, ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC in the Indian Super League in recent seasons and is a product of Real Madrid Castilla. before switching India In 2019, Hernandez went out for clubs in Spain, Sweden, Romania, Poland and Azerbaijan.

Hernández began his youth career with local side CDF Pizarrales, before moving to UD Salamanca in 2002 and then at the Real Madrid Youth Academy in 2005 at the age of 16. He made his senior debut with Real Madrid Castilla at Segunda Division B. , Halmstad, Salamanca, CD Orense, and Burgos before stints at CF.

“I know that in the last two seasons, the club has not reached the level it is aiming for. I am motivated to give my best in every training session and every match to help this team achieve their goals and It is one of the best in the country. Xavi moved to Romania in 2015 with Polly Timi Oara, followed by Gornik Lezna in Poland and Gabala in Azerbaijan. After a two-year return to Poland with Krakow-based club MKS Cracovia, the Spaniard made his India debut in 2019, signing with ATK.

His arrival gave ATK their third championship win, and he scored two goals against Chennaiyin FC in the final. Hernández stood out in midfield for ATK that season, scoring 5 goals and making five assists in twenty appearances.

The Spanish midfielder, who played 19 out of 20 matches for Odisha FC in the previous stint of the league, scored six times for the Juggernauts, and recorded five assists during the season.
