ISL 2021-22: Prince Ibarra Stars Bengaluru FC beat Mumbai City FC 3-0

Bengaluru FC heaped more misery on Mumbai City FC with a 3-0 win in Match No. 56 of the Indian Super League 2021-22 at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda. The defending champions missed the chance to take the top spot and collected only two points in the last five games, while Marco Pezzauloli’s men are only three points away from fourth place on the table.

Danish Farooq (8′) gave the Blues an early lead, which was extended to three by Prince Ibara (23′, 45′), who scored a brace with two key goals in the first half.

Gurpreet Sandhu was called into action early, having saved two attempts from Casio Gabriel and Bipin Singh within minutes after kick-off. However, it was BFC who took the lead through Danish Farooq, whose left footed drive from outside the box left Phurba Lachenpa no chance to score. Prince Ibarra had joined the party when he doubled the lead with only 23 minutes on the clock to bury a header from close range. Roshan Norem’s cross was brilliant and the Congolese striker made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

The Blues continued to put more pressure on the islanders and created several scoring opportunities around the half-hour. Des Buckingham’s team could not stop the deficit for two goals as Ibarra scored again with a header before the halftime whistle. Roshan Norem was again a perfect corner provider who took the highest jump to head the ball.

Something similar happened at the beginning of the second half, in which BFC threatened to score. However, MCFC took more possession and created better chances to cut losses. Ibara was replaced by Sunil Chhetri, who left the pitch due to injury. Five minutes before the hour mark, Apuia saw his half-volley from long-range hit the right post and came out.

Ajit Kamaraj replaced Naorem who was suffering from a muscle problem late in the match. The fourth official added five minutes for stoppage but MCFC could not break the BFC defence. The Blues captured a well-deserved clean sheet and scored all three points in a sensational overall performance.

Bengaluru FC will next take on ATK Mohun Bagan at the PJN Stadium on Saturday while Mumbai City FC will take on Kerala Blasters FC on Sunday at the Tilak Maidan stadium.
