The match began with the Highlanders taking hold of the proceedings. Deshorn Brown scored his fifth goal of the campaign in the first five minutes. The striker was fed a penetrating pass by Suhair Vadakkepedika and found himself in a face-off with the goalkeeper. He calmly placed his right footed shot into the bottom left corner for an early breakthrough. A few minutes later, Jordan Murray missed an open goal with a diving header, thus wasting a great chance to score the equalizer.

Moments later, the call for a penalty was rejected by the referee when Provat Lakra trapped Greg Stewart inside the box. The forward had another chance to equalize but his left footed shot was blocked by Mirshad Michu. However, the goal came in the end from Jordan Murray, who made the highest jump to connect with Stewart’s free-kick and put the ball inside the net in the closing stages of the first half.

The Men of Steel carried their momentum from the first half to the second half. Within three seconds of the restart, Murray’s shot from the right corner of the box required Michu’s intervention which made a strong save. JFC finally took the lead after a goal from Boris Singh five minutes before the hour mark. The winger caught on to Murray’s cut-back and made no mistake in placing the ball inside an empty goal with his right foot.

As five minutes were added for stoppage, Brown scored his second goal, passing the goalkeeper and scoring with utmost restraint. A few minutes later, Ishaan Pandita again made the winner, acting as the super-sub. The striker made no mistake in finishing from close range and secured three crucial points for his team.

Jamshedpur FC will now await SC East Bengal’s challenge at the Athletic Stadium on Tuesday while NorthEast United have a week gap ahead of their meeting with FC Goa at the same venue on Friday.
