ISIS Kerala Module Case: NIA Conducts Search in Srinagar, Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided a residential house in Karfali Mohalla Habbakadal in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar in the early hours of Monday in connection with the Kerala ISIS module case registered with the central agency.

In a handout, the NIA said, “In 2021, the National Investigation Agency had initiated investigation of Mohammad Amin @ Abu Yahya* resident of Kadannamanna, District Malappuram (Kerala) who was running various propaganda channels of ISIS on various social media Platforms such as Telegram, Whoop and Instagram. Through these channels, he was propagating violent jihadist ideologies of ISIS and radicalizing and recruiting new members into this ISIS module. He and his associates targeted Some persons were also identified for the murders.They also planned to migrate to Jammu and Kashmir to engage in terrorist activities and raised funds for this journey from various sources.

During the probe, it was found that Mohd Amin was in touch with Dipti Marla from Kerala, a converted Muslim who was married to Anas Abdul Rahman from Mangalore, the agency said.

In 2015, she went to Dubai to study, where she met Meeza Siddiqui and both women developed an affinity for ISIS. In 2019, he tried to do Hijr to Khorasan and reached Tehran, Iran. After reaching Tehran, his contact with ISIS operatives based in Khorasan could not be established.

They both returned to India, and Dipti liaised with Amin, Obaid Hamid Matta, Madesh Shankar alias Abdullah and others and planned to take Hijra to ISIS-administered territory. In January 2020, she went to Srinagar in January 2020 to meet Obaid to plan for Hijra and stayed in Srinagar for a week.

One of the common contacts between Deepti and Obaid, Uzair Azhar Bhat, who is suspected to be a part of the conspiracy, was raided today (13.03.2023). NIA searches Bhat’s house in Karfali Mohalla, Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir). The seized digital devices are being examined and further investigation is underway, the NIA handout read.
