Iron Grill To Fence Steps At Chamundi Hills, Says Simha | Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysuru: MP Pratap Simha on Friday said the district administration has planned to install iron grills on both sides of the 1,001 steps of Chamundi Hills .
Presiding over the district development coordination and monitoring committee meeting at th ezilla panchayat hall here, he said grills will be erected under the Union government sponsored Prasad scheme.
He directed the forest department to reconduct a survey of forest land to clear encroachments in Chamundi Hills and initiate measures to fence their property and protect it. The department must also take up rain harvesting methods for the rejuvenation of lakes and water bodies to improve ground water recharge.
The deputy conservator of forest Kamala Karikalan then said the department has constructed ground water recharging pits in forest hills and will construct some more.
Deputy commissioner Bagadi Gautham wanted the forest department to scientifically construct recharge pits by utilizing the benefits provided by minor irrigation dthe Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. (MNREGS).
Scarcity of hostels for students studying in urban areas was also discussed at the meeting. District backward class officer Bindya said the department has 30 hostels with the availability of 3,478 seats.
As the department received excess applications of 5,178 this year, she said she had written to higher officials to ensure hostel facilities for students.
Deputy conservator of forests Karikalan sought funds to fence the Arabbithittu forest land on Hunsur highway as it was damaged in recent years. Fencing is needed to protect wild animals, he added.
Deputy director of public instruction Ramachandre Raje Urs said the department has initiated measures to improve SSLC results . The pass percentage of the district was 17th last year, and efforts are under way to bring it to 10th.
Joint director of agriculture Mahanteshappa said as many 2.2 lakh farmers were benefiting from PM Kisan scheme in the district.
