Ireland’s Paul Stirling beats Virat Kohli to achieve ‘Big T20’ achievement

New Delhi: Ireland cricket team’s star opener Paul Stirling broke a unique world record while batting against UAE at the UAE Summer T20 Bash 2021 on Sunday. The record that Sterling broke was the first Indian captain Virat Kohli’s name.

During Sterling’s hard-hitting 40 off 35 balls against the United Arab Emirates, he hit four fours and surpassed Virat Kohli to hold the record for most boundaries in T20 cricket. Sterling has hit 288 fours in the T20 format so far, while Virat has hit 285 fours in his T20 career so far.

Sterling and Kohli are followed by New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, who holds the record for hitting 256 fours in T20 cricket. In the elite list, Team India’s vice-captain Rohit Sharma is fourth with 252 fours and Australia T20 captain Aaron Finch is at number five.

Paul Stirling has scored the most runs for his country Ireland in the shortest format of the game i.e. T20 cricket. The star opener has scored 2495 runs in 89 T20 matches. He also holds the record for scoring a century in T20 International cricket.

Sterling opened with Kevin O’Brien in the sixth match of the ‘UAE Summer T20 Bash 2021’. Both the openers together gave their team a great start and shared 85 runs for the first wicket in 11.3 overs.

Experienced Brian played a swashbuckling innings of 54 runs in 45 balls with the help of one four and two sixes. However, the team could not take advantage of this excellent start and could only manage 134 runs in the allotted overs.
