The time is coming, the man is coming. Virat Kohli powered Hyderabad to victory with an impressive century to seal a dominating win for Royal Challengers Bangalore in a crunch game of IPL 2023.

Kohli equaled the record held by Chris Gayle for most IPL centuries, scoring his sixth and first since 2019. He hit 12 fours and four sixes in his 100 off 63 balls to help RCB make it to the playoffs.

Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a challenging 186/5 thanks to Heinrich Klaasen – his first century of IPL career. Before Kohli came to the centre, Klaasen had scored 104 off 51 balls with the help of eight fours and six sixes.

However, Kohli and RCB captain Faf du Plessis added 172 runs for the opening partnership to all but seal victory for their team. Du Plessis continued his fine form this season with a 47-ball 71 as RCB chased down the target with four balls to spare.

This was RCB’s seventh win this season and with this the number of points has now increased to 14. And he has also improved his net run rate.

This win has helped them to swap places with Mumbai Indians. RCB are now fourth in the standings or in other words, they have climbed into the playoff zone.

Mumbai Indians have slipped to fifth position despite scoring 14 points due to poor net run rate.

Gujarat Titans (18 points), Chennai Super Kings (15 points) and Lucknow Super Giants (15 points) occupy the top three spots in that order.

There was a period when du Plessis’ top spot in the run-scorers’ list was in real danger when Yashvi Jaiswal reduced the gap to just one run. However, the South African continues to pile on the runs and has become the first batsman this season to cross the 700-run mark.

Du Plessis now has 702 runs in 13 innings at an average of 58.50 and an impressive strike rate of 153.94. He has scored eight half-centuries.

It was also a memorable night for Kohli as he scored his first IPL ton since 2019. He has crossed the 500-run mark and has scored 538 runs in 13 innings with the help of a century and six fifties.

Heinrich Klaasen has entered the top-10 after scoring 430 runs in 10 innings.
