The Gujarat Titans returned to winning ways as they beat the Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs with Mohit Sharma being the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/31 in his four overs.

The Gujarat Titans managed to return to winning ways with an emphatic win over the defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

GT’s opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan were the stars of the show as the pair managed to outclass Chennai’s crippled bowling attack to raise their respective centuries and also equalled the record for the highest opening stand in the history of the tournament with a 210-run stand.

The humongous partnership of 210 runs between the two allowed the Titans to register a target of 232 which might seem less considering the amount of runs that have been scored through the season.

In the powerplay, the impact sub, Sandeep Warrier and the experienced Umesh Yadav managed to give the Titans the start they needed with the ball to pile the pressure on CSK. The two managed to take a wicket each to get rid of Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad respectively and Rachin Ravindra was run out to make it three wickets down in the powerplay.

Chennai’s middle-order batters, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali looked to steer the chase back in favour of the visitors with a 109-run stand and the Kiwi international took the game on by scoring 63(34) while the English international scored 56(36).

However, GT’s bowling unit also managed to turn up with Mohit Sharma returning to form by picking up three wickets for just 31 runs to haunt his former side.

Mohit managed to clear out both Mitchell and Ali which was also followed by his third, the dangerous Shivam Dube to curb any chances of a potential comeback.

The legendary MS Dhoni was tasked with the impossible task of helping the side score over 60 runs in the final four overs but the lack of support from the other end due to the likes of Ravindra Jadeja being dismissed meant that the Titans walked away with the win. Nonetheless, he was able to entertain the fans in yellow with a valiant knock of 26 in 11 balls.

The loss will certainly dent CSK’s net run rate but remain in the fourth spot in the points table. However, they will be under pressure to take the wins in their final games of the season which will be against the top-2 contender, Rajasthan Royals and the in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home.
