IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants Trade West Indies’ Romario Shepherd to Mumbai Indians Ahead of Auction

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have traded West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd to Mumbai Indians (MI) during the ongoing Indian Premier League trading window ahead of the season 2024 auction.

Shepherd had played just one game for LSG in IPL 2023, when he didn’t bowl a single over and was dismissed for a duck, against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Lucknow.

The 28-year-old Shepherd, who has played overall IPL matches, has been traded to MI for his existing fee of Rs 50 Lakh.

According to an ESPNcricinfo report, the ten IPL franchises were originally supposed to submit the list of retained players on November 15 but now the deadline has been deferred to November 26, a week after the World Cup final in Ahmedabad.

It has been learnt that the teams will release underperforming, high-salaried players before the end of deadline.

The IPL player auction will be held on December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.  The Coca-Cola Arena is known for hosting high-profile events, including concerts and various sporting events and it is the first time that an IPL auction will be held overseas.

The ten franchises will have a salary cap of Rs 100 crore. This season marks the third and final year of the three-year contract for each player, and a mega auction is scheduled for the next year.

Notably, Shepherd is a very familiar name in the T20 franchise leagues. In September earlier this year, he won the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title with Guyana Amazon Warriors, his home franchise in the league.

He was also one of Joburg Super Kings’ direct signings ahead of the inaugural SA20 auction.

The Guyaneese all-rounder has played 31 T20Is so far with a batting strike rate of 153.57 and a bowling economy rate of 10.38.
