Aggressive opener Rohit Sharma achieved a major feat on Sunday in the Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit, who was not part of the Mumbai Indians’ starting XI, came out to bat as an opener in the chase as he was selected as the Impact Player. The Hitman didn’t make a big score but his 20-run innings was enough for him to enter his name in the record books.

Rohit has now become the batsman with the most runs against a single team in the Indian Premier League. The 35-year-old enjoys playing against Kolkata Knight Riders as he has now scored 1040 runs against the two-time IPL champions. He surpassed Shikhar Dhawan to top the elusive list of players who have scored the most runs against the opposition in the cash-rich IPL.

Earlier, Rohit did not start in the playing XI of Mumbai Indians as Suryakumar Yadav took over as captain in the first innings. Surya told during the toss that Rohit’s absence was due to stomach upset. Riding on Venkatesh Iyer’s century, KKR posted a formidable 185/6 in front of Mumbai as Rohit came out to bat as an impact player and stitched a crucial 65-run partnership for the opening wicket with Ishan Kishan.

Rohit was dismissed by young Suyash Sharma who lofted the ball to invite Rohit to make a mistake and he did so by smashing it straight into the hands of Umesh Yadav at mid-off.

Earlier, Venkatesh Iyer smashed a brilliant 51-ball 104 – his maiden century in the Indian Premier League – to hand Kolkata Knight Riders a commanding 185/6.

The 28-year-old India and KKR batting all-rounder Iyer waged a lone war with the bat against Mumbai Indians, registering his highest score in the IPL as well as hitting a total of six fours and nine sixes among all batsmen this season. Completed his second century of this IPL edition in just 49 balls.
